All of Adam Scott's photographs are 'found art with camera' - that is, no physical changes were made to the subject. He shoots with the lighting conditions of the moment; he does not linger, waiting for the 'perfect' light; rather he shoots rapidly, to more accurately capture the essence and randomness of the natural environment. No darkroom manipulations or alterations (other than for color accuracy) are performed on any pieces.
All of the images on this site were photographed in North America. Most were shot in the Lower 48 United States. The quality and diversity of these images are a testament to the glory and variety of the American continent. Every state west of the Mississippi River; Mexico, as well as British Columbia, Alberta, and Vancouver Island in Canada is represented.
Although most of the images are of obscure, off-the-path places, several are of regions that have captivated mankind for hundreds, in some cases thousands of years. The Hetch-Hetchy valley, a favorite haunt of naturalist John Muir; the Canyonlands, home to thousands of years of Anasazi heritage; the Grand Tetons, unmistakable mountains that served as guideposts to pioneers on the journey West; Glacier National Park, whose lofty peaks have long been considered the dwelling-places of ancient Native American spirits. Added to these renowned locations are rare glimpses of wondrous places inaccessible to all but the most determined explorer. Many of these uncommon images were captured only after days of backcountry trekking in remote wilderness areas.
Adam is currently selecting images from recent trips including the 2003 fall foliage season in New England, Yellowstone National Park, Glacier National Park and the Canadian Rockies. Once this is finished, he will begin work on the otherworldly images from a February trip through central and Southern California, including Joshua Tree National Park, the Mojave National Desert Preserve, Anza-Borrego State Park, and the Salton Sea. Finally, in June 2004, Adam is taking a three week backpacking trip in Utah and Colorado, with a new large format camera with him, allowing final image sizes of 32"x40" and greater.
