One of the most recognizable American panoramas, the Yosemite Valley in central California has dazzled generations of visitors. The favorite haunt of revered naturalist John Muir, its pristine beauty provided much of the impetus for the creation of the United States' National Park system.
This early-spring view of the Yosemite Valley was taken in April of 2003. Visible from left to right are El Capitan, a snow-capped Half Dome, and Bridal Veil Fall, three of the valley's most famous landmarks.
